About StillCasting

StillCasting answers a simple question: of all the people listed in a film or TV series cast, who is still alive today? We track verified survivorship status for over 271,000 cast members across 23,000+ titles — from silent-era films to present-day streaming releases.

For each person we show date of birth, date of death where applicable, cause of death, age, and a full filmography with survivorship context. For each title we show a complete cast breakdown: how many are living, how many have passed, and who the oldest surviving member is.

Our core cast and biographical data comes from The Movie Database (TMDb), a community-maintained database of over one million titles. TMDb provides cast listings, biographical dates, and profile images under its open data licence.

Death dates and cause-of-death data are cross-referenced against Wikidata and Wikipedia. Where sources disagree, we flag the record for editorial review rather than auto-publishing a disputed status.

Cast data is refreshed daily from TMDb. New titles are added as they are imported and verified. Death records sourced from Wikidata are checked on a rolling schedule; high-profile deaths are typically reflected within 24 hours of a confirmed Wikipedia entry being published.

Each person page shows an “initial data fetched” timestamp. Where a filmography has never been synced from TMDb, the page notes this and a sync is triggered automatically on first visit.

Survivorship status is drawn from authoritative structured sources, not scraped news feeds. A person is marked deceased only when their date of death appears in both TMDb and Wikidata, or when an editorial review confirms a credible source. We do not publish unverified reports.

Despite this, errors occur — TMDb data can lag, and some biographical records contain inaccuracies. If you spot incorrect information, please use our contact form. We investigate all reports and correct verified errors within 48 hours.

Cause-of-death information is sourced from Wikidata structured properties and Wikipedia text. It is displayed for informational and research purposes. We use standardised categories (cancer, heart disease, accident, etc.) to enable statistical analysis. Individual cause records link to the Wikipedia source where available.
